Coleta seletiva e reciclagem pode ser uma importante ferramenta para a sociedade por ajudar na solução da
disposição final dos resÃduos sólidos e na geração de renda para muitas pessoas que movem este cadeia,
promovendo oportunidades para a economia local e gerando novos mercados, resultando em benefÃcios para o
meio ambiente devido ao reaproveitamento de materiais que passaram por processos industriais e podem
contaminar o meio ambiente. Geração de resÃduos é um problema para centros urbanos e é relatado como
resultado de hábitos culturais, educação e à administração pública que não tem polÃticas públicas eficientes,
resultando no aumento da problemática ambiental e causando riscos à saúde humana. O objetivo deste trabalho
foi realizar um diagnóstico da geração e os benefÃcios financeiros da coleta seletiva dos resÃduos sólidos
produzidos na cidade de Medianeira-PR através da parceria entre os catadores e o municÃpio. Para elaborar este
estudo, as informações foram obtidas através da Associação dos Agentes Ambientais de Medianeira –
ASSAMA. Os resultados sugerem que a coleta seletiva gera empregos diretos e indiretos, mas que os ganhos não
são suficientes para sustentar as famÃlias que dependem da cadeia produtiva de resÃduos sólidos.
The selective collection and recycling can be an important tool for society to help in the solution in the final
dispose of solid waste and generation of rent for many people who move through this chain, providing
opportunities for the local economy and generating new markets resulting in benefits to the environment due the
reusing of materials that have passed for the processing industry and can to contaminate the environment. Waste
generation is a problem for urban centers and is related due the culture habit, education and public administration
that don´t have efficient publics which result in the increase of environmental concern and causing risk for
human health. The aim of this works was the diagnosis of generation and financial benefits from the collection of
solid waste produced in Medianeira-PR city through a partnership between the public agency and the scavengers.
To elaborate this study information were obtained from the Associação dos Agentes Ambientais de Medianeira –
ASSAMA. The results suggests that the selective collection generates direct and indirect jobs, but the gains are
not sufficient for survival of the families who live of the productive chain of the solid waste.
