Os Estudos Culturais trouxeram para a área de estudos literários novas possibilidades de abordagens nas relações humanas. Uma delas que é discutida neste artigo é a relação entre identidades e diferenças oriundas, em sua maioria, das descolonizações a partir do século XIX. É essa leitura que faremos no filme Crash – no limite, dirigido por Paul Haggis (2005). Analisaremos como se desenrolam essas relações após as identidades e diferenças entrarem em colisões no trânsito da cidade de Los Angeles, Califórnia. Um lugar que faz parte de um paÃs considerado um melting pot, os Estados Unidos, é uma fonte rica de questões de identidade. Examinaremos, ainda, como o fenômeno da História Única, de Chimamanda Adichie influencia os comportamentos no dia a dia dos encontros de diferentes identidades. Buscaremos entender quais os fatores culturais influenciam os conflitos que se estabelecem quando pessoas com identidades diferentes se esbarram em seu contexto e fora dele.
Cultural Studies brought to the literary studies new possibilities of approaches in human relations. One of them discussed in this article is the relationship between identities and differences arising mostly from decolonization in the 19th century. It is this reading that we will do in Crash, directed by Paul Haggis (2004). We analyze how these relations take place after the identities and differences come into collisions. We examine also how the phenomenon of unique history, by Chimamanda Adichie influences behaviors on the daily routine of the different identities meetings. We wil also analyze how the phenomenon of Unique History, proposed by Chimamanda Adichie, influences the daily behavior of the encounters of different identities. We try to understand which cultural factors influence the collisions which take place when people of different identities crash in their context and outside it.
