Introdução:O abuso infantil é um dos tipos de violência impactantena sociedade, podendo ocorrer de forma física, verbal, psicológica, sexual, além da negligência. O Cirurgião-Dentista deve estar preparado para reconhecer lesões decorrentes de abuso, capacitado a oferecer subsídios que possam auxiliar na conduta. Objetivo: Compreender com base na literatura a postura do Cirurgião-Dentista frente às suspeitas de abuso infantil.Percurso Metodológico: Estudo tipo revisão de literatura narrativa, realizado com base bibliográfica em livros, teses e artigos do banco de dados Bireme; publicados entre os anos de 2002/ 2020; no idioma português; utilizando os descritores: infância; maus tratos; odontologia. Resultados:Os abusos sexuais, psicológico, físico e negligência, acometidos na infância, são praticados no ambiente familiar e poucos chegam ao domínio público. O abuso psicológico é mais difícil de identificar; pois é praticado com palavras. Já o abuso físico é mais evidente, deixando marcas. A negligência é um dos tipos de maus-tratos mais comum, em que o profissional vai distinguir entre omissão dos pais perante sinais orais; identificando os sinais e sintomas das crianças abusadas. Conclusão: Considerando a dimensão dos danos decorrentes do abuso desde a anamnese do Cirurgião-Dentista, com análise e diagnóstico definitivo das consequências do abuso, constatando os serviços cabíveis.

Introduction:child abuse is one of the types of impacting violence in society, which can occur in physical, verbal, psychological, sexual, and neglect. The dentist should be prepared to recognize injuries resulting from abuse, able to offer subsidies that can assist in the conduct. Objective:to understand, based on the literature, the posture of the dentist when facing suspected child abuse. Methodological Path:study type narrative literature review, conducted with bibliographic basis in books, theses and articles ofthe bireme database; Published between 2002 and 2020; In Portuguese language; Using the descriptors: childhood; Mistreatment; Dentistry. Results:sexual abuse, psychological, physical and neglect, affected in childhood, are practiced in the family environment and few reach the public domain. Psychological abuse is more difficult to identify; For it is practiced with words. Physical abuse is more evident, leaving marks. Negligence is one of the most common types of maltreatment, in which the professional will distinguish between omission of parents before oral signs; Identifying the signs and symptoms of abused children. Final Considerations:considering the extent of damage resulting from abuse since the dental surgeon's anamnesis, with analysis and definitive diagnosis of the consequences of abuse, noting the appropriate services.
