Neste artigo, proponho analisar o livro Rio Grande do Sul: Prazer em conhecê-lo, publicado por Luiz Carlos Barbosa Lessa em 1984. O objetivo é identificar como o autor elabora discursivamente a identidade regional afirmando símbolos como “passado comum”, “ancestrais fundadores”, “paisagem” e “lugares de memória”, “panteão de heróis”, “folclore”, “hábitos” e “costumes”. Trata-se, em suma, de averiguar como a escrita da história é empregada pelo principal teórico do “movimento tradicionalista” para a naturalização de atributos ligados ao modelo identitário romântico do gaúcho a cavalo, o “centauro da Pampa”.
In this work my intention is to analyse the book called Rio Grande do Sul: Prazer em conhecê-lo, published by Luiz Carlos Barbosa Lessa in 1984. The goal is to identify how the author constructs discursively the regional identity, predicating simbols like “commum past”, “ancestral founders”, “landscape” and “places of memory”, “pantheon of heroes”, “folklore”, “habits” and “costumes”. Thus, I want to investigate how the historiography is used by the principal theorist of the “movimento tradicionalista” to naturalize the attributes related with the romantic identity model of “gaúcho”, the “centauro da Pampa”.
