Os Fulni-ô é um dos povos indígenas que tiveram mais contato direto com a sociedade brasileira. Hoje os Fulni-ô participam plenamente nos sistemas econômicos e políticos da sociedade maior. Não obstante essa relação longa e intensa, os Fulni-ô mantiveram sua língua nativa e alguns aspectos do que consideram ser sua cultura tradicional, especialmente o ritual chamado Ouricuri: um espaço social em que a idéia de sua organização social tradicional se mantém viva, um fato que sustenta e fortalece sua identidade. Hoje em dia o Ouricuri se tornou cada vez mais significativo na manutenção de sua identidade étnica; é aqui aonde os Fulni-ô recriam, reproduzem, exercem e consolidam esses aspectos de sua organização social tradicional que deixaram de ser relevantes no cotidiano. O Ouricuri é a memória histórica e cultural dos Fulni-ô e, portanto, a essência de sua identidade étnica.

Resumo Inglês:

The Fulni-ô are one of the indigenous peoples who have had
more direct contact with the rest of Brazil‟s society. Nowadays the
Fulni-ô fully participate in the economic and political apparatus of
the mainstream. Despite this intense and lengthy relationship, the
Fulni-ô have kept their native language and some aspects of what
they consider to be their traditional culture, especially the so-called
Ouricuri ritual: a social space where the idea of their traditional
social organization is kept alive, a fact that sustains and
strengthens their identity. Currently the Ouricuri has become
increasingly more meaningful in the conservation of their ethnic
identity; it is here where the Fulni-ô recreate, reproduce, exercise
and consolidate those aspects of their traditional social
organization that have ceased to belong to their everyday social
life. The Ouricuri ritual is the cultural and historical remembrance
of the Fulni-ô, and therefore, the essence of their ethnic identity.
