A presente pesquisa teve como objetivo analisar qual é a percepção dos discentes de Ciências Contábeis da UERN e da UNP sobre o uso da contabilidade na gestão das finanças pessoais. O estudo caracterizou-se por ser uma pesquisa descritiva e qualitativa, cujos procedimentos fundamentaram-se na pesquisa bibliográfica e no estudo de caso. Os dados foram coletados por meio de um questionário estruturado com 7 perguntas fechadas. As questões foram aplicadas em uma população de 192 discentes, sendo que destes 90 eram da UERN e 102 eram da UNP. Diante do resultado obtido com a pesquisa, pôde-se concluir que os discentes da UERN consideram a contabilidade mais relevante para gestão das finanças pessoais do que os discentes da UNP, mas no caso da UERN percebeu-se que praticamente as demonstrações contábeis não são usadas para essa finalidade. Notou-se que o grau de endividamento dos discentes dessa instituição é menor do que na UNP, pois esses discentes afirmaram participar de eventos promovidos pela própria instituição, diferentemente do que afirmaram os discentes da UNP. Por meio desse fato é possível sugerir que as próprias instituições de ensino procurem incentivar os discentes no uso das técnicas contábeis também para uso pessoal, tendo em vista auxiliar na gestão das finanças pessoais

This study aimed to analyze what is the perception of the students of Accounting of UERN and UNP on the use of accounting in personal finance management. The study had to be a descriptive and qualitative research, whose procedures substantiated in the literature and in the case study. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire with 7 closed questions. The questions were applied to a population of 192 students, and of these 90 were from UERN and 102 were from the UNP. Given the results obtained from the research, it was concluded that the students of UERN consider the most relevant accounting for managing personal finances than the students of the UNP, but in the case of UERN was realized that practically the financial statements are not used for this purpose. It was noted that the degree of indebtedness of the students of this institution is less than the UNP, because these students claimed to participate in events organized by the institution itself, unlike what the students said the UNP. Through this fact is possible to suggest that the very education institutions seek to encourage students in the use of accounting techniques also for personal use, in order to assist in personal finance management.
