O palhaço Biribinha, do Teatro Biriba, encenou o esquete Que Bicho é Esse? O palhaço iniciou a cena apresentando um perfil tolo e terminou-a demonstrando plena inteligência. Essa transição entre extremos aproximou a personagem de um tipo específico de palhaço: o Contra-Augusto, consolidado na história do circo europeu pelo Trio Fratellini. No Brasil, desde o final do século XIX, os palhaços apresentaram características múltiplas em que prevaleceu o hibridismo de tipos, gêneros cênicos e performances variadas. Com isso, eles não se aprisionaram às características de tolo e ingênuo do Augusto, nem à arrogância e à "inteligência" dos Clowns Brancos.
The clown Biribinha, of the Theater Biriba, staged the sketch “Which Animal is This?” The clown began the scene as a foolish character but finished it as an intelligent one. This transition between extremes is closely related to the character of a specifc type of clown: the Contra-Auguste, consolidated in the history of the European circus by the Trio Fratellini. At the end of the 19th Century in Brazil, clowns presented multiple characteristics, the most prevalent of which were crossbreed of types, kinds of staging and mixed performances. As such, they were not bound to the characteristic foolish and naive of Auguste, nor to the arrogance and “intelligence” of the White Clowns.
