O Direito Canônico medieval se transformou a partir de meados do
século XII com a organização de inúmeras compilações que
buscavam sistematizar o conhecimento jurídico do período e oferecer
ao mesmo tempo ferramentas de estudo e uso prático. Ao
acompanhar o percurso dessas coleções, particularmente a partir do
lugar concedido à discussão sobre dízimos, podemos observar como
se deu o envolvimento do papado no processo consolidação do
direito canônico como um instrumento importante de definição de
autoridade e jurisdição.
Medieval Canon Law was transformed from the middle of the 12th century
onwards with the organization of countless compilations that attempted to
systematize the period‟s juridical knowledge offering, at the same time, tools
for the study of laws as well as for their practical application. Following the
development of these collections, particularly through the place given to the
discussion on tithes, we can observe the papacy‟s involvement in the process
of consolidation of canon law as an important instrument for the definition
of authority and jurisdiction.
