O século XX foi marcado por profundas turbulências econômicas como as grandes guerras e a Grande Depressão. Em cada um desses momentos o capitalismo se moldou, adaptando-se à nova realidade econômica. O conceito de Desenvolvimento Econômico também se modificou nesse processo. Até a II Guerra Mundial sua definição confundia-se com o Crescimento Econômico, mas foi com o surgimento do Welfare State (estado do bem-estar) que o desenvolvimento econômico ganhou conotação própria. O presente artigo busca resgatar e analisar a partir de uma revisão bibliográfica esse perÃodo da economia, abordando aspectos da Grande Depressão, do Intervencionismo Keynesiano até a chegada do Welfare State.

The twentieth century was marked by significant economic turmoil, as the great wars and the great depression. In each of these events capitalism is shaped by adapting to the new economic reality. The concept of Economic Development has also changed in this process. Until Second World War, its definition merged with the Economic Growth, but it was with the rise of the Welfare State Economic Development gain its own connotation. This article aims to retrieve and analyze from a literature review this period the economy, addressing aspects of the Great Depression, the Keynesian interventionism until the arrival of the welfare state.
