O Irã, pós-revolução islâmica, passou a ser considerado um ator pouco confiável. Seja por seu envolvimento em conflitos no Oriente Médio, seja por seu apoio ideológico e material a organizações, ditas terroristas. O fato é que a possibilidade de o Irã desenvolver a tecnologia nuclear e, posteriormente, transformá-la num processo de produção de armas, faz com que os demais atores do sistema internacional se posicionem com mais ênfase acerca desse fato. Contudo, muito mais do que apoiar, ou não, o Irã, está em jogo a perspectiva que se tem do sistema internacional e a limitação que deve ser imposta aos atores, inclusive no que tange à soberania.

Post-Islamic revolution Iran has been considered an unreliable actor. Either because of the country's involvement in conflicts in the Middle East, or because of its ideological and material support to supposedly terrorist organizations. The fact is that the possibility of Iran developing nuclear technology and then transforming it into a process of weapons production makes other players in the international system position themselves with more emphasis on this issue. However, much more than supporting or not Iran, what is at stake is the perspective one has of the international system and the limitation that should be imposed on the actors, including that related to sovereignty.
