This article investigates the contributions that psychoanalysis offers for the treatment of depression and its relation to the 21st century. It also elaborates a brief historical evolution of the concept of melancholy, as well as, what marks the difference between this, mourning and depression, analyzing the process of psychoanalytic intervention in the face of the present depression. It is a work, theoretical-conceptual, in which the importance of the analytical framework for the reinsertion of the depressed subject in the public space and its role in the reconstitution of the desire for the location of the fantasy was observed. The concept of depressivity, unlike the depressed state, was also understood as a constitutive element of the natural condition of the desiring subject, and is therefore the path to which the depressed subject needs to be reappointed.
