Esta pesquisa teve por objetivo investigar como as variáveis relacionadas à produção total de açúcar, e os respectivos preços no mercado internacional, e à produção total de etanol, e os respectivos preços no mercado interno, influenciaram a composição da área cultivada de canade-açúcar no Brasil, ao longo do período compreendido entre 1988 e 2016. Nesse sentido, foi aplicada a análise de regressão linear múltipla pelo método stepwise às séries históricas de dados referentes ao período proposto e, entre outros resultados, pôde-se observar que as variáveis relacionadas aos volumes totais de produção, tanto do açúcar quanto do etanol, exerceram influência significativa sobre a área cultivada em todo território nacional, ao longo do período analisado. Em relação à variável preço, somente a cotação internacional do açúcar foi considerada estatisticamente significativa para explicar as variações da área cultivada de cana-de-açúcar ao longo do período compreendido entre 1988 e 2016.
The objective of this research was to investigate how the variables related to the total sugar production, and the respective prices in the international market, and the total ethanol production, and the respective prices in the domestic market, influenced the For this purposethis sense, multiple linear regression analysis was applied by the stepwise method to the historical series of data referring to the proposed period and, among other results, it was observed that the variables related to the total production volumes of both sugar and ethanol, exerted a significant influence on the cultivated area throughout the national territory, during the analyzed period. Regarding the price variable, only the international price of sugar was considered statistically significant to explain the variations of sugarcane cultivated area during the period between 1988 and 2016.
