A Visão de Túndalo é um exemplum, narrativa de caráter moralizante transmitida a um auditório, com objetivo de obter a conversão. Produzida no século XII por um monge cisterciense desconhecido, foi traduzida para o português no século XV. Através da figura do Diabo e dos tormentos no Inferno, os fiéis se arrependeriam dos pecados cometidos e buscariam a salvação, adotando o comportamento indicado pela Igreja Católica para conduzi-los ao ParaÃso.
Visio Tnugdali is an exemplum,
a moral narrative with the task
of convincing an audience for the
purpose of conversion. Produced in
the in twelfth century by an unknown
Cistercian monk, it was translated to
Portuguese in the fifteenth century
(Visão de Túndalo). Through the image
of the devil and of the torments
in hell, the Christians would repent
their sins and search for salvation,
adopting the behavior indicated by
the Catholic Church to conduct them
to Paradise.
