Este artigo investiga a polêmica frase dita pelo múscio Karlheinz Stockhausen de que os atentados terroristas de 11 de setembro à Nova York seriam a “maior obra de
arte jamais realizada”. Tenta entender, a partir daí, o possível sentido terrorista da arte em
sua busca pela transgressão na direção do impossível. Essa interpretação deriva da origem
do artigo: ele surgiu a partir de uma palestra proferida no dia 13 de março de 2008 em
Recife – PE, preparada para o seminário “Arte e Crime”, mais precisamente, para a mesa
de discussão intitulada “A transgressão possível. O que significa transgredir hoje?”.

This paper examines the controversial statement by musician Karlheinz Stockhausen who said that the controversial statement by musician Karlheinz
Stockhausen who said that the terrorist attacks of September 11 on New York were the
“greatest work of art ever”. The article takes this phrase as a starting point to understand
the possible terrorist content in art and its attempt to search for transgressions moving in
the direction of the impossible. This interpretation is derived from the origin of the article:
it emerged from a presentation given on March 13, 2008 in Recife, PE as part of a seminar
on “Art and Crime”, more precisely at a session entitled “Possible Transgression. What
Does Transgression Mean Today?”
