Resumo: O artigo busca analisar como o consulado brasileiro em Luanda colaborava com os esforços britânicos na atuação antitráfico no Atlântico Sul entre 1850 - 1860 e com isso buscava defender o livre - comércio como meio de promover a extinção completa do tráfico de escravos e apresentar o Império do Brasil como uma nação civilizada e progressista.
Abstract: The article seeks to analyze how the Brazilian consulate in Luanda collaborated with the British efforts in the anti - traffic activity in the South Atlantic between 1850 and 1860 and with that sought to defend free trade as a means to promote the complete extinction of the slave trade and to present the Empire of Brazil as a civilized and progressive nation.
