O artigo traz uma breve revisão bibliográfica, assim como ilustrações de canções brasileiras do século XX que abordam a consolidação do samba como gênero nacional e sua ameaça pela música estrangeira. A partir do discurso das letras das canções e de intelectuais, busco demonstrar, baseado nos pressupostos de Renato Ortiz, como os compositores atuaram, juntamente com os intelectuais, como mediadores para a criação da imagem de uma música nacional em constante ameaça pela música estrangeira.
The following article contains a brief bibliographical review, as well as illustrations of Brazilian songs of the 20th century dealing with the establismment of samba as the national genre and the threat by foreign music represents. From a discussion of the lyrics of the songs and intellectuals’ comments on there, I argue, based on Renato Ortiz’s theories, that composers worked closely with intellectuals, as mediators for the creation of the image of a national music under constant foreign threat.
