O texto discute Carlos Drummond de Andrade como um poeta realista moderno, que sempre manteve sua realidade subjetiva e biográfica e o mundo de seu tempo presente histórico – o século XX – como matéria sua poesia; também, sempre manteve a confidência como a sua forma de encorpar essa matéria. Para efetivar esse amálgama, garantiu a modernidade de um eu-lírico em alteridade com o mundo, praticando um realismo em que tudo se relaciona (inclusive o seu autorretrato) com o processo geral da vida e com o processo geral de uma vida específica, imersa num mundo que não pretende seja somente representado, mas funcional. É por isso que Otto Maria Carpeaux, lúcida e paradoxalmente, pôde dizer de sua poesia que ela é uma poesia subjetiva e objetiva ao mesmo tempo.
This article discusses Carlos Drummond de Andrade as a modern and realistic poet, who always maintained his subjective, biographical reality and the world of his historical present time – the XX century – like a subject of his poetry. He always carried on the confidence as way of reaching this matter. In order to keep this amalgam, the poet guaranteed a moderna lyric for the construction of the persona in alterity with the world. He used to practise a realism in which everything is brought into relation - his self-portrait included - with a general life process and a specific one. It is intended that this world be not only represented but also functional. That is why Otto Maria Carpeaux wisely said that Drummond´s poetry is subjective and objective at the same time.
