Este artigo pretende investigar os ideários de Edmund Burke e Joseph de Maistre dentro do pensamento do conservadorismo moderno e seus fundamentos enquanto tentativa teórica de preservação das instituições e tradições vigentes. Ambos pensadores elaboram suas teses utilizando dos acontecimentos da Revolução Francesa (1789-1799). Sustentando, dessa forma, a criticidade efetuada a favor da ordem outrora estabelecida na Europa por meio de duas correntes de pensamento: o ceticismo pirrônico de Edmund Burke e o providencialismo de Joseph de Maistre, como ambas se complementam e se diferenciam em suas mentalidades. O objetivo do artigo consiste em reconstruir a estrutura originária do conservadorismo setecentista como uma das ideologias manifestadas no período moderno como uma reação à Revolução Francesa, uma crítica ao Estado utópico.

This article aims to investigate the ideologies of Edmund Burke and Joseph de Maistre within the thought of modern conservatism and its foundations as a theoretical attempt to preserve the institutions and traditions in force. Both thinkers elaborate their theses using the events of the French Revolution (1789-1799). In this way, they support the criticism made in favor of the order once established in Europe through two currents of thought: the pyronic skepticism of Edmund Burke and the providentialism of Joseph de Maistre, how both complement and differentiate themselves in their mentalities. The aim of the article is to reconstruct the original structure of 18th-century conservatism as one of the ideologies manifested in the modern period as a reaction to the French Revolution, a criticism of the utopian state.
