O objetivo deste artigo é apresentar princÃpios da educação agostiniana, bem como a aplicação de parte destes princÃpios, sugerida por Santo Agostinho. No intuito de lograr êxito neste propósito, foram analisadas obras do tagastense e buscou-se, também, o suporte de obras sobre o bispo de Hipona, na tentativa de se entender o contexto de Santo Agostinho. A partir da análise feita, pode-se inferir que Santo Agostinho, africano de nascimento, cidadão romano por força da lei e cristão por opção, mesmo que tardia, apresentou, em suas ideias sobre educação, uma sÃntese da formação pragmática romana com a formação de cunho escatológico do cristianismo.
The objective of this study was to present the principles of Augustinian education, as well as the application of part of these principles, as suggested by Saint Augustine. As a result, apart from the analysis of his own work, support was also sought on the bibliographical work on the Bishop of Hippo Regius, in an attempt to understand the context Saint Augustine lived and worked. Based on the analysis performed, it was possible to infer that Saint Augustine, African by birth, Roman citizen by the force of the law and Christian by his own option, presented in his ideas on education a synthesis of the Roman pragmatic education with the scatological nature found in Christian education.
