The formation of cetyltrimethylammonium budding (CTAB) micellar aggregates in aqueous solutions containing salts (NH 4 Cl and NH 4 Br) was studied by surface tensiometry and viscosity methods. Experimental results indicate that the formation of micelles is facilitated by the addition of salts. The system passes from spherical micelles at low concentrations of NH 4 Cl and NH 4 Br to elliptic and eventually liquid-crystalline mesophores at high salt concentrations.
