Quality of Life in Postmenopausal Women with Breast Cancer. Brazilian Journal of Biomotricity, v. 3, n. 4, p.
351-358, 2009. Both breast cancer and its treatments reduce the quality of life (QOL) in the postmenopausal
women with breast cancer. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of exercise training on QOL in
postmenopausal women with breast cancer. Thus, Twenty nine postmenopausal breast cancer women (50 -
65 years) that received surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy and were under current hormone
therapy divided in two groups, exercise training and control. Subjects of exercise training group performed
15 weeks exercise training including walking (2 sessions per week) and resistance training (2 sessions per
week different from walking days). Control group did not participate in any exercise training or physical
activity. QOL was measured by the National Medical Center and Beckman Research Institute questionnaire
in pre and post of 15 weeks. Data analyzed by independent t test. The results of this study showed that there
is no significant different between dimensions of QOL in exercise training and control groups (p>0.05). Also,
there was no significant different between QOL in exercise training and control groups (p=0.832). In fact,
exercise training had no significant effect on the QOL in postmenopausal women with breast cancer. In
conclusion, exercise training can not improve QOL in postmenopausal women with breast cancer.
