O Serviço Social brasileiro, ao longo de sua trajetória, é considerado uma profissão majoritariamente feminina. Diante da necessidade de ir além da mera constatação quantitativa, que apenas nos indica que a maior parte da categoria profissional é comporta por mulheres, este artigo tem como objetivo situar os vínculos existentes entre o Serviço Social e a divisão sexual do trabalho no processo histórico de emergência da profissão a partir de elementos da inserção das mulheres no mercado de trabalho na realidade brasileira. Buscamos apresentar como a divisão sexual do trabalho interfere diretamente no mercado de trabalho das assistentes sociais, conformando tanto as habilidades exigidas quanto elementos de subalternidade diante de outras profissões. Por meio de uma revisão da bibliografia da área e da literatura feminista marxista, consideramos que a divisão sexual do trabalho é uma categoria elementar para se desvendar o modo de inserção da profissão na divisão social do trabalho.

The brazilian Social Service, throughout its trajectory, is considered a profession mostly female. This observation must go beyond a quantitative perception and onlyindicates that most of the professional category is behaved by women. This article aims to locate the existing links between the Social Service and the sexual division of labor in the historical process of the emergence of the profession from the elements of the insertion of women in the labor market in the Brazilian reality. We seek to present how the sexual division of labor interferes directly in the labor market of social workers, conforming both the required skills and subaltern elements to other professions. Through a review of the bibliography of Marxist feminist area and literature, we consider that the sexual division of labor is an elementary category to uncover the mode of insertion of the profession in the social division of labor.
