Este artigo apresenta uma discussão acerca do impulso conferido à questão das
identidades no quartel final do século XX e inÃcio do XXI, em duas dimensões. Primeiro,
constrói-se uma visão panorâmica das modificações na importância atribuÃda à s identidades,
pessoais ou grupais, ocorridas no bojo do processo de globalização. Segundo, reflete-se sobre
como os historiadores promoveram, no seio de sua disciplina, avanços metodológicos
destinados a lidar com as demandas sociais oriundas das transformações da realidade. Assim,
o artigo está estruturado em três seções: a inicial realiza breve reflexão acerca da emergência
de novas demandas identitárias; a segunda avança sobre as respostas da ciência história, em
especial nas suas vertentes polÃtica e cultural, à s alterações do contexto e a última trata das
fontes preferenciais utilizadas pelos historiadores para abordar a questão das identidades.
This article presents a discussion on the strength attributed to the issue of the
identities in the last quarter of the 20th century and in the beginning of the 21st one, in two
dimensions. First of all, it constructs an overview of the changes in the relevance ascribed to
the identities, individual or grupal ones, developped inside the globalization process. Second,
it reflects on how the historians promoted, within their discipline, methodological advances to
cope with the new social demands come from reality transformations. Thereby, the article has
a structure in three sections: the starting one makes a brief reflexion about the emergence of
new identities demands; the second one advances over the answers supplied by the historical
science, specially in its cultural and political sides, to the context changes and the last one
touch the preferential sources used by the historians to address the identities question.
