O envelhecimento é classificado em envelhecimento intrínseco ou cronológico que ocorre no decorrer da vida, não podendo ser evitado, já o envelhecimento extrínseco, precoce ou fotoenvelhecimento é adquirido através dos fatores ambientais. A pesquisa teve o objetivo a comparação de diferentes sexos em relação a preocupação com o fotoenvelhecimento. Foi realizado estudo transversal utilizando um questionário autoaplicável formulado pelas pesquisadoras. A amostra foi composta por funcionários e professores do Centro Universitário Filadélfia e Colégio Londrinense, totalizando 352 pessoas. Com a realização do estudo e análise dos dados notou-se que os participantes do sexo feminino possuem maior conhecimento e preocupação sobre os malefícios da radiação ultravioleta, utilizam mais vezes o filtro solar e reaplicam o mesmo com maior frequência. Evidenciou que quanto mais o participante se preocupa e possui conhecimento, mais vezes o filtro solar é reaplicado. A pesquisa demonstrou que muitos participantes afirmam possuir conhecimento e se preocupam com os malefícios da radiação ultravioleta, porém muitas vezes se protegem de maneira incorreta.
Aging is classified as intrinsic or chronological aging that occurs over the course of life and cannot be avoided, while extrinsic, premature aging or photoaging is acquired through environmental factors. The research aimed to compare different sexes in relation to their concern about photoaging. A cross-sectional study was conducted using a self-administered questionnaire formulated by the researchers. The sample consisted of employees and professors from the Philadelphia University Center and Londrinense College, totaling 352 people. Through the study and analysis of the data, it was noted that female participants have greater knowledge and concern about the harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation, use sunscreen more often and reapply it more frequently. It was shown that the more the participant worries and has knowledge, the more often the sunscreen is reapplied. The research showed that many participants claim to have knowledge and are concerned about the harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation, but often protect themselves incorrectly.
