Este artigo aborda alguns dos efeitos sociais da criação
de uma Unidade de Conservação sobreposta ao
povoado do Aventureiro, na Ilha Grande, RJ. A partir
de uma pesquisa etnográfi ca (2002-2008), observamos
na prática como se exerce o poder tutelar por
meio da gestão personalizada do funcionário-residente
do órgão ambiental. Observamos como os
laços pessoais entre o funcionário e os moradores
foram rompidos e como, diante dessas duas esferas
de prestÃgio, deu-se a perda da reputação do funcionário.
The advent of the law in the resolution of an environmental
dispute: Personalized management of a Conservation
Unit at the Praia do Aventureiro addresses some of the
social eff ects of creating an environmental Conservation
Unit, which extends over the Aventureiro community, on
Ilha Grande, RJ. Drawing on ethnographic research (2002-
2008), we observed how in practice the tutelary power is
exercised through the personalized management of the
environmental agency resident employee. We could verify
how the personal ties between the employee and the residents
were ruptured and how, in the light of these two domains
of prestige, the employee’s reputation was lost.
