Enzimas microbianas têm se destacado como um dos principais produtos
tecnológicos do mundo moderno, porém seu uso tem relatos nos tempos mais
remotos. No inÃcio do século XX, teve inÃcio a produção em grande escala de
enzimas industriais, hoje enzimas para detergentes de roupas, por exemplo,
somam quantias significativas no comércio mundial. Por outro lado, enzimas
de uso em diagnóstico clÃnico e terapêutico tiveram seu uso iniciado na
década de 60 e década de 80, respectivamente, e vêm recebendo especial
atenção da indústria de biotecnologia. Os avanços já podem ser percebidos
na sociedade com tratamentos mais efetivos e diagnósticos laboratoriais
mais rápidos e precisos. Nesta revisão são apresentados aspectos históricos,
mercadológicos e de aplicações dessas enzimas.
Microbial enzymes have been pointed as one of the most important
technological product in the modern World, even that its use has been reported
in the ancient ages. At the beginning of the 20th Century, the industrial enzymes
started to be produced; today the enzymes used in detergents for clothes
washing, for example, sum a significative portion of the world market. On
the other hand, the use of special enzymes for clinical diagnostic and
therapeutic started to be used at the beginning of 60`s and 80`s years
respectively and caught the interest of the companies in biotechnology.
Advances might be realized in the society, such as more effective therapeutic
treatments and faster and more precise diagnostics in the clinic. In this revision
are present aspects of history, market and application of these enzymes.
