Combining ability analysis was studied in 2013-2014 a line × tester with six lines and three testers of wheat. Genetic variability among genotypes was assessed for plant height, days to heading, days to maturity, number of tillers per plant, number of spikelets per spike, Spike length, number of grains per spike, grain weight per spike, and grain yield per plant. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) revealed the presence of significant variance due to general combining ability (GCA) and specific combining ability (SCA) among the parents for all the traits. Combining ability analysis results revealed that parental genotypes, as L2, L4, L5, L6, and T3, can be used in future breeding strategies. Being the potential of general combiner, these genotypes may be beneficial to generate desirable combinations. Whereas, specific crosses like L4×T1, L6×T1, and L2×T3 may be evaluated further. This combining ability analysis can be useful in wheat genetic improvement programs, particularly when directed toward the best cross combinations with the objective to obtain maximum genetic gains in the traits studied.
