A formação inicial e continuada de professores é deficitária na temática polar e não há muitos materiais didáticos de apoio para desenvolver conteúdos sobre essas regiões. Dessa forma, o objetivo desta pesquisa é apresentar um relato de uma metodologia inovadora voltada para a educação polar de alunos da Educação Básica. A metodologia fundamenta-se na dinâmica das mídias digitais, como o Instagram e o YouTube, utilizando diversos materiais: fotografias, desenhos, roupas de expedições antárticas e vídeos. Foram analisados os desenhos e as escritas de 47 estudantes dos Anos Finais do Ensino Fundamental, assim como os questionamentos por eles produzidos. No primeiro momento da oficina, alguns estudantes preferiram o uso de palavras ao invés de desenhos, o que evidencia sua dificuldade em criar uma representação de um ambiente pouco familiar. No segundo momento, houve um melhor entendimento através de fotografias que retratavam ambientes polares, indicando uma ampliação da percepção inicial dos estudantes. A evolução verificada na compreensão dos ambientes polares foi provocada pelo diálogo conduzido pelas dúvidas e curiosidades dos discentes, o que promoveu uma percepção mais complexa das relações existentes entre os elementos característicos da região em estudo.

The initial and continuing training of teachers is deficient in the polar theme, and there are not many teaching materials to support the development of content about these regions. Thus, the objective of this research is to present an innovative report and methodology focused on polar education with basic education students. The methodology is based on the dynamics of digital media, such as Instagram and YouTube, using different materials: photographs, drawings, clothes from Antarctic expeditions and videos. The drawings and writings prepared by the students and the notes of their questions were analyzed, with the participation of 47 students from the final years of elementary school. In the first moment of the workshop, some students preferred the use of words instead of drawings, which shows difficulty in creating a representation of an unfamiliar environment. In the second moment, there was a better understanding of photographs depicting polar environments, indicating an expansion of the initial perception. The evolution verified in the understanding of polar environments was provoked by the dialogue driven by the doubts and curiosities of the students, which promoted a more complex perception of the existing relationships between the characteristic elements of that region.
