Este estudo objetivou verificar a ingestão de fibras por moradores de dois bairros da cidade de Porto Velho: São Cristóvão (região central) e Esperança da Comunidade (região periférica). A pesquisa foi realizada em residências escolhidas aleatoriamente, onde o material utilizado para coleta de dados foi um questionário com perguntas fechadas, tendo como sujeitos da pesquisa 200 indivíduos maiores de 18 anos em cada bairro, de ambos os sexos. O bairro São Cristóvão apresentou uma renda mais elevada e maior grau de escolaridade. O veículo de comunicação mais acessível aos indivíduos que ouviram falar de fibras, foi a televisão. Os resultados demonstraram um elevado consumo de alimentos fontes de fibras em ambos os bairros e o motivo relatado por aqueles que não consumiam foi o sabor ruim. O feijão foi a principal fonte de fibra alimentar, sendo consumido em 97,5% no bairro Esperança da Comunidade e 93,5% no bairro São Cristóvão. O estudo mostrou que a renda familiar não foi fator determinante na aquisição de alimentos ricos em fibras, pois se verificou o consumo destes por todas as classes econômicas estudadas. A inclusão de fibras na alimentação faz-se importante para a prevenção de doenças crônico-degenerativas, como o diabetes, dislipidemias, entre outros, possibilitando dessa forma melhor qualidade de vida.
This study aimed to check the intake of fibre by residents of two neighborhoods of the city of Porto Velho: Saint Christopher (central region) and Hope Community (peripheral region). The study was conducted in randomly selected homes, where the material used for collection of data was a questionnaire with questions closed, with the subject of search 200 individuals over 18 in each neighborhood, of both sexes. The neighborhood Saint Christopher presented a higher rent and higher level of schooling. The vehicle of communication more accessible to individuals who heard fibre, was the television. The results showed a high consumption of food sources of fibre in both neighborhoods and the reason reported by those not accounted for was the taste bad. The beans were the main source of dietary fiber, being consumed by 97.5% in the district of Hope Community and 93.5% in the quarter Saint Christopher. The study showed that family income was not the determining factor in the purchase of foods rich in fiber, it was found by the consumption of all economic classes studied.
