A análise da expansão da fronteira agrícola no município de Água Fria de Goiás foi feita com objetivo de se caracterizar as principais modificações na fração do bioma Cerrado entre o período de 1990 á 2010 utilizando-se de técnicas computadorizadas de Geoprocessamento. O mapeamento foi realizado na escala de 1:25.000 a partir de cinco imagens Landsat TM5, com composição colorida utilizando-se as bandas 3, 4 e 5. Para a geração dos mapas de uso de solo foram delimitadas diversas classes que correspondem ao seu real uso: agrícola, pecuária, urbano, natural, água e vegetação em recuperação. Ao se quantificar a área pertencente a cada classe constatou-se o constante aumento no uso do solo para práticas agrícolas, sendo que inicialmente as áreas destinadas a pecuária eram maioria no município, e no último período as áreas cultivadas superaram-nas. Com a sobreposição de todos os mapas dos cinco períodos foi possível gerar o mapa de expansão agropecuária em Água Fria de Goiás para demonstrar a localização e extensão das áreas antropizadas, sendo que inicialmente 11% do território municipal eram destinados a agricultura, passando para 27% em 2010. Já as áreas pertencentes a pecuária que cobriam em 1990 17% da área total do municipal, sendo até então maioria, passaram a ocupar uma área equivalente a 19% do território em 2010. Com a análise dos dados e observações em campo, foi possível perceber como se deu a expansão agropecuária e a sua grande influência na vida da população que depende quase que totalmente da agricultura para retirar seu sustento.

The analysis of the expansion of the agricultural borders in the municipality of Agua Fria de Goiás was made in order to characterize the main changes in the fraction of Cerrado biome, in the period 1990 to 2010, using computerized techniques of Geo-processing. Mapping was performed in the range of 1:25,000 from five Landsat TM5 images with color composition using the bands 3, 4 and 5.To generate maps of land use we defined several classes that correspond to its real use: agricultural, livestock, urban, natural, water and vegetation recovery.By quantifying the area belonging to each class we found the constant increase in land use for agricultural practices, and initially the areas destined to livestock were the bigger ones in the municipality, and in the last period the cultivated areas exceeded them.With the overlay of all maps of the five periods it was possible to generate the map of agricultural expansion in Agua Fria de Goiás to demonstrate the location and extent of anthropized areas, and initially 11% of the municipal territory were intended to agriculture, rising to 27% in 2010.On the other hand, the areas belonging to livestock in 1990 covered 17% of the total area of the municipality, being until then the bigest ones, they came to occupy an area equivalent to 19% of the territory in 2010.With the analysis of data and field observations, it was revealed how the expansion was and its great influence in the lives of the population that depends almost entirely on agriculture for their livelihood.
