Este artigo é o resultado de reflexões e discussões a respeito da categoria geográfica território, fazendo um paralelo das discussões realizadas por alguns importantes pensadores que se dedicam e/ou se dedicaram ao estudo desse tema, buscou-se desenvolver uma análise da evolução histórica do conceito de território, apresentando suas várias concepções vinculadas à s diferentes correntes do pensamento geográfico até os dias atuais, quando este conceito retornou de forma significativa com o seu uso crescente não somente pela Geografia como também em diversos ramos das ciências humanas. A recuperação do conceito traz à tona, de um lado, a dimensão polÃtica do espaço; de outro, gera confusões conceituais tanto no seu debate quanto na sua empregabilidade. Entendemos que o debate acadêmico é revelador de conflitos conceituais que, por sua vez, permitira avanços na construção de teorias, oferecendo pistas e indicações relevantes para a compreensão crÃtica da história espacial e temporal.
This article is the result of thoughts and discussions about the category geographical territory, making a parallel of the discussions accomplished by some important thinkers that they are devoted and/or they were devoted to the study of that theme, it was looked for develop an analysis of the historical evolution of the territory concept, presenting its various conceptions linked to the different currents of the geographical until the current days, when this concept returned in a significant way with its growing use not only for the Geography as well as in several branches of the humanities. The recovery of the concept brings to the surface, on a side, the political dimension of the space; of other, it generates conceptual confusions so much in its debate as in its employability. We understood that the academic debate is developing of conceptual conflicts that, in turn, it had allowed progresses in the construction of theories, offering tracks and relevant indications for the critical understanding of the history spatial and temporal.
