Resumo Português:

A formação da margem continental do Ceará iniciou no final do Jurássico. Entre o
Jurássico e o Barremiano, ocorreram esforços distensivos que preparavam a ruptura
entre a América do Sul e a África, criando a série de rifts do sistema Cariri/Potiguar. Ao
final do Neocomiano as deformações associadas à abertura oceânica saltaram do
A partir do Eocampaniano, a

The formation of the continental margin of Ceará State initiated in the end of the
Jurassic. Between the Jurassic and the Barremian, extensional forces prepared the
rupture between South America and Africa, creating the rifts of the Cariri/Potiguar
system. In the end of the Neocomian, deformations associated with the oceanic opening
moved from the segment east of the South Atlantic toward the Equatorial Atlantic, and
the rifts had aborted. But the deformation continued in the course of the Aptian and
Albian, being responsible for the genesis of the northeast transforming continental
margin. Between the Aptian and the Campanian, the region was marked by thermal
subsidence. From the Campanian until the end of the Cretaceous, the evolution of the
continal marge was marked by uplifting of the basement and of the sedimentary basins.
The relief of this area represents a vast amphitheater opened toward the sea, holding a
complex set of structural forms. Such morphostructural disposition was directly inherited
from the Cretaceous. Such context demonstrates that the differentiation of the larger
volumes of relief in the area, as well as the modeling of pediplains, are older then it is
normally thought for classic Geomorphology.
