Entendendo o território como sinônimo de espaço banal, marcado por diferentes usos, diversas organizações e espontaneidades por parte dos agentes sociais que o metamorfoseiam e que estão condicionados à dinâmica territorial desenvolvida por eles próprios e influenciada por âmbitos externos, lançamos mão da teoria dos circuitos da economia urbana dos países subdesenvolvidos para compreender a dinâmica do eixo rodoviário Natal-Caicó sob a perspectiva da totalidade das características dos objetos e das ações aí existentes. Assim, objetivamos, neste artigo, apreender a existência do circuito superior e do circuito inferior no eixo rodoviário em questão. Para atingirmos tal escopo, estruturamos nossas reflexões em abordagens sobre a economia política das cidades e no inventário dos circuitos da economia urbana no eixo rodoviário Natal-Caicó. Como resultado da pesquisa,explicitamos a existência dos circuitos da economia urbana no eixo rodoviário Natal-Caicó, destacando a proeminência do circuito inferior da economia urbana. Como consideração final do trabalho, frisamos que o estudo da economia política de cidades não selimita à identificação de atividades. Understanding the territory as a synonym of banal space marked by different uses, different organizations and spontaneities by the social agents that metamorphose it and that are conditioned to the territorial dynamics developed by themselves and influenced by external levels; we launch the theory of urban economy circuits of underdeveloped countries to understand the dynamics of the Natal-Caicó highway axis from the totality perspective of characteristics of objects and actions that exist there. Thus, in this article we have aimed to understand the existence of the upper circuit and the lower circuit in the aforementioned highway axis. To achieve this scope, we have structured our reflections on approaches about the political economy of cities and the inventory of urban economy circuits in the Natal-Caicó highway axis. As a result of this research, we underline the existence of the urban economy circuits in the Natal-Caicóhighway axis, highlighting the prominence of the lower circuit in the urban economy. As a final consideration of the study, we stress that studying the political economy of cities is not only limited to identification of activities; analyzing the circuits is as important as making an inventory, and including them in a relational perspective
