A experiência do Batismo com o Espírito Santo é central para os pentecostais clássicos. Esta reflexão pretende verificar quais os propósitos dessa experiência para os milhões de fiéis pentecostais espalhados em todo o mundo. Através de uma pesquisa analítica bibliográfica, constata-se que essa experiência tem como propósitos a divulgação do Evangelho, assumida como missão da comunidade, e a realização de milagres, tais como aconteciam na Igreja primitiva. O Batismo com o Espírito Santo tem como objetivo ainda conduzir os pentecostais a uma abertura para manifestações que não são explicadas pela razão humana. O artigo conclui que o poder que o Espírito concede aos fiéis os capacita para o serviço ao próximo.
The experience of Baptism with the Holy Spirit is central to the classic Pentecostals. This reflexion intends to verify which are the purposes of this experience to the millions of Pentecostal believers spread all around the world. Through an analytical bibliographical research it is confirmed that this experience has as its purposes the promotion of the Gospel and the performance of miracles just like it used to happen at the primitive church time, both presented as mission of the community. The Baptism with the Holy Spirit leads the Pentecostal believers towards an overture to unexplainable manifestations, beyond the human reason understanding. The article concludes that the power that the Holy Spirit gives to the believers is the capacity to be of service to the neighbour.
