Resumo. Neste artigo discute-se, através de análise bibliográfica, a importância da família escrava e do parentesco espiritual entre os cativos nas Minas setecentistas, relacionando os rituais de casamento e batismo com a construção de identidades parentais com a resistência escrava. Para os escravos, a reconstituição da família e do parentesco espiritual era estratégica, mostra, além do desejo dos pais de protegerem seus filhos, uma tentativa de ampliar a família, construindo redes de dependência mútua, de reciprocidade e de fidelidade que perdurava por toda a vida, fato que revela a astúcia dos africanos e descendentes que viviam sob a égide da escravidão. Longe de ser elemento estrutural para a manutenção do sistema escravista, a família escrava poderia contribuir até mesmo para ajudar a desestabilizar o sistema social.

The slave family in the colonial context: power, work and resistance in the eighteenth century Minas Gerais
Abstract: In this article we discuss, through bibliographic analysis, the importance of the slave family and the spiritual kinship between the captives in the captaincy of Minas Gerais, Brazil, linking rituals of marriage and baptism with the construction of parental identities with slave resistance. For the slaves, the reconstitution of the family and spiritual kinship was strategic, showing, in addition to the parents' desire to protect their children, an attempt to expand the family, building networks of mutual dependence, reciprocity and fidelity that lasted throughout the life, a fact that reveals the cunning of Africans and descendants who lived in the time of slavery. Far from being a structural element for the maintenance of the slave system, the slave family could contribute even to help destabilize the social system.
