O presente artigo objetiva analisar a negligência contra crianças e adolescentes na cidade de Mossoró-RN, a partir dos casos notificados ao Centro de Referência Especializado em Assistência Social (CREAS), no período de 2014 a 2019. A coleta de dados foi realizada na própria cidade, por meio da análise dos processos envolvendo esses sujeitos. Observamos que a negligência é mais comum do que aparenta, sendo a segunda maior causa de violações notificadas contra crianças e adolescentes durante o período estudado na pesquisa. Foi possível observar também que todos os violadores faziam parte da família das crianças e dos adolescentes, levando a uma responsabilização exclusiva desses membros, especialmente as mães. Ademais, em muitos casos, a responsabilização da família, nega a possibilidade de análise crítica acerca dos aspectos culturais, sociais, políticos e econômicos presentes no cotidiano dessas famílias, invisibilizando a existência da violência estrutural.
This article aims to analyze child and adolescent neglect in the city of Mossoró-RN, based on cases reported to the Specialized Reference Center for Social Assistance (CREAS) between 2014 and 2019. Data collection was carried out in the city itself, through the analysis of the processes involving these individuals. We observed that neglect is more common than it appears, being the second leading cause of reported violations against children and adolescents during the period studied in the research. It was also possible to observe that all the perpetrators were part of the children's and adolescents' families, leading to the exclusive attribution of responsibility to these members, especially the mothers. Furthermore, in many cases, the attribution of responsibility to the family negates the possibility of critical analysis of the cultural, social, political, and economic aspects present in the daily lives of these families, rendering the existence of structural violence invisible.
