Através do estudo da escrita de Higino Cunha, Clodoaldo Freitas e Corinto Andrade, o artigo aborda a avaliação destes bacharéis e intelectuais acerca do feminismo, entre o final do século XIX e o início do século XX, bem como as diferentes posições assumidas em relação às demandas feministas. Mostra que a elaboração de uma escrita que visava interferir no social, mediante a veiculação de ideais de feminilidade e de relações de gênero, foi uma das reações ao feminismo. Identifica o medo e o ódio despertados pelas reivindicações feministas e também a identificação masculina com o movimento. Argumenta que as diferentes reações masculinas ao feminismo expressam diferentes formas de experienciar a masculinidade no período em estudo.
Through the study of writing Higino Cunha, Clodoaldo Freitas and Corinto Andrade, the article discusses the evaluation of these graduates and intellectuals concerning feminism in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, as well as the different positions taken in relation to the demands feminists. Shows that the development of a written aimed at interfering with the social, by serving the ideals of femininity and gender relations, was one of the reactions to feminism. Identifies the fear and hatred aroused by the feminist demands and also the masculine identification with the movement. Argues that the different masculine reactions to feminism express different forms of masculinity experience in the study period.
