O objetivo deste artigo é
analisar o papel de Fernão Lopes na
construção da imagem de D. João I
na crônica que fez destinada a este rei.
Neste sentido o nosso texto está associado à História do Imaginário PolÃtico uma vez que o cronista pretendia
legitimar uma nova dinastia no poder, com base no simbolismo cristão.
Além disso, Lopes no seu trabalho
tem a pretensão de ser um historiador e adotou alguns elementos usados pelos historiadores até hoje. Em
primeiro lugar dirige o seu olhar não
somente com aos “grandesâ€, mas também retrata em seus escritos o restante da população e sua participação nos
acontecimentos através das crônicas
que redigiu. Em segundo lugar, consulta documentos de variados tipos
para certificar-se da veracidade dos
dados que apresenta. Isso não quer dizer que tenha conseguido, como afirma, contar a “crua verdadeâ€. Fernão
Lopes constrói uma história que tem
como propósito louvar a Dinastia de
Avis e em especial o seu iniciador, D.
João I e para isso legitima esse monarca com base em elementos bÃblicos. O
cronista se torna essencial na imagem
tecida sobre D. João após a sua morte:
o rei da Boa Memória, cujos feitos deveriam ser lembrados e elogiados pela
posteridade.
The aim of this paper is
to analyze the role of Fernão Lopes
in the image construction of John I,
of Portugal in the chronicle that he
did dedicated to this king. Our text
is related to the History of the Political Imaginary since the chronicler
intended to promote the legitimacy
of a new dynasty in power, based on
Christian symbolism. Furthermore,
Lopes in his work has the pretension
to be a historian and adopted some
elements utilized by historians until
nowadays. In the first place, he directs his sight not only to the “big
onesâ€, but also retreats the population in his writings and its participation in the events by the chronicles
he wrote. In the second place, consults various kinds of documents to
certify the veracity of data he presents. This does not mean the he has
succeeded, as he states, to tell the
“crude truthâ€. Fernão Lopes builds a
story that has the purpose of praising
the Avis’ Dynasty and especially his
initiator, John I, of Portugal and for
that legitimates this monarch based
on biblical elements. The chronicler
is essential in the image made about
John I after his death: the king of
the Good Memory, whose actions
should be remembered and praised
by posterity.
