Além do seu caráter metacientífico, este ensaio desenvolve reflexões metafilosóficas sobre os tipos de tarefas a que se dedicam os filósofos no domínio da filosofia contemporânea da biologia, de modo a evidenciar o seu papel e a natureza distintiva do seu questionamento nas suas permutas com a investigação científica. Além de discutirmos vários tópicos abordados pelos filósofos da biologia contemporâneos, dirigimos também o foco para o papel da cultura no comportamento animal bem como para as relações da biologia com a psicologia e a antropologia, no que se refere à evolução humana.
This is the first part of an essay that targets the specificity and multifaceted character of the contemporary philosophical investigation about the biological sciences. Besides its metascientific character, this essay fosters metaphilosophical reflections on the kinds of tasks philosophers are concerned with in contemporary philosophy of biology, to make salient the distinctive role and nature of their musings in their exchange with scientific investigation. Besides discussing various topics that are addressed by contemporary philosophers of biology, we focus on the role played by culture in animal behavior, as well as on the relations between biology, psychology and antropology, as far as human evolution is concerned.
