AS FOTOGRAFIAS COMO FONTE PARA A HISTÓRIA DAS ESCOLAS RURAIS EM UBERLÂNDIA (1933-1959)

Este texto fundamenta-se nos pressupostos da História Cultural para discutir o emprego da
fotografia como fonte para os estudos e pesquisas em História da Educação. Apresenta
inicialmente uma discussão teórico-conceitual relativa à questão das fontes iconográficas e,
em seguida, analisa, por meio das fotografias pertencentes ao acervo fotográfico que compõe
a Coleção Professor Jerônimo Arantes, as representações construídas dos estabelecimentos
de ensino situados na zona rural de Uberlândia durante os anos de 1933 a 1959. A pesquisa
contempla a caracterização, origem e finalidade das fotografias, as representações dos alunos,
professores e do próprio Jerônimo Arantes, enquanto proprietário do acervo. As imagens
analisadas possibilitam identificar alguns aspectos das escolas retratadas e ir ao encontro dos
elementos que conformaram a cultura escolar domunicípio; propiciam ainda compreender as
representações e práticas produzidas pelos sujeitos das escolas rurais e aquilatar o papel
dessas instituições no processo de escolarização da sociedade local.

This study is based on Cultural History presupposes to discuss the use of pictures as a source
for studies and researches in Education History. It presents, in the beginning, a concept
discussion about the iconography sources. It analyzes, then, the representations built about
the country schools in Uberlandia during 1933 and 1959 using pictures that belong to
Jeronimo Arantes' Archive. This search regards the pictures characterization, reason and
finality, students, teachers and Jeronimos Arantes' representations, this last one as the owner
of the archive. The photographs analyzed allow us to identify some aspects of the schools in
question and they present elements that conformed the scholar culture in Uberlandia,
besides, they appease the comprehension of the representations and customs produced by
the subject in the country schools and evaluate the importance of those institutions in the
local society educational process.
