Há acadêmicos que dizem que a BÃblia começa num jardim e termina numa cidade. Assim, este artigo procura delinear o tema da “cidade†nas Escrituras, focalizando principalmente o uso linguÃstico e teológico deste termo. O conceito teológico da cidade é estudado especificamente em três áreas: a cidade como fim teleológico da criação, a cidade no perÃodo pós-queda e a graça comum, a cidade como fim escatológico da história da redenção.

Some scholars say that the Bible begins in a garden and concludes in a city. This article traces the theme of the city throughout Scriptures focusing on the linguistic and theological usage of the term. Specifically, the concept of the city is studied from perspective of God’s original creation intent, as a Post-Fall common grace blessing, and the ultimate goal of redemption history. The article concludes by looking at the city as an interpretive lens by which the mission of God’s people can be more fully understood.
