Neste artigo, busco refletir sobre as consequências lógicas e sociais de algumas análises do futebol inspiradas nas perspectivas críticas de Louis Althusser, Theodor W. Adorno e Max Horkheimer, a fim de abrir caminho para um enfoque mais construtivo. Para tanto, apoio-me nas análises desenvolvidas por John B. Thompson sobre as obras desses autores. Começo problematizando o papel integrador e unificador do futebol e a noção de declínio do indivíduo-torcedor. Em seguida, argumento que é preciso repensar o papel e os modos de operação da ideologia no universo do futebol, indicando a pertinência da noção de ideologia formulada por Thompson para a compreensão das relações entre sentido e dominação nesse universo específico.

This article aims to reflect on the logical and social consequences of some analysis of football inspired in the critical perspectives of Louis Althusser, Theodor W. Adorno and Max Horkheimer, in order to make way for a more constructive approach. Therefore, I refer to analysis developed by John B. Thompson on the works of these authors. I start questioning the integrative and unifying role of football and the conception of declining of individual-fan. Then, I argue that we need to rethink the role and modes of operation of ideology in the football universe, indicating the relevance of the concept of ideology formulated by Thompson for understanding the relationship between sense and domination in this particular universe.
