Este estudo foi desenvolvido com o objetivo de validar a escala de PSM – Public
Service Motivation para a amostra pesquisada no Brasil, uma vez que estudos sobre o
constructo PSM somente foram realizados fora do paÃs. Foram analisados os resultados da
modelagem de equação estrutural aplicada à amostra brasileira, em comparação aos resultados
da pesquisa americana. Os Ãndices encontrados se mostraram significativos, apesar da
necessidade de melhoria no ajuste geral do modelo, assim como na teoria sobre PSM com as
devidas influências culturais do Brasil. Assim, a escala foi considerada adequada para a
amostra e pode ser considerada como um estudo exploratório para novas pesquisas. Além
disso, o trabalho contribui para estudos na área de validação de constructo pelo método
utilizado de Modelagem de Equação Estrutural, que possibilita maior consistência e
confiabilidade na mensuração proposta pelas escalas.
This study was developed with the objective to validate the scale of PSM -
Public Service Motivation for the sample searched in Brazil. This studies on the construct of
PSM had been only carried through outside of the country. The results of the modeling of
structural equation applied to the Brazilian sample had been analyzed, in comparison to the
results of the American research. The indexes found had shown significant, although the
necessity of improvement in the general adjustment of the model, as well as in the theory on
PSM considering cultural influences of Brazil. Thus, the scale was considered adjusted for the
sample and can be considered as an exploratory study for new researches. Moreover, this
paper contributes for studies in the area of validation of construct using the method of
Modeling of Structural Equation that makes possible greater consistency and trustworthiness
in the measure of the scales.
