Este trabalho tem como objetivo analisar a participação discente no processo de escolha de Reitor e Vice-Reitor para a gestão 2014-2018 da Universidade Estadual de Ponta Grossa - PR. Considerando a escolha de dirigentes como fator constituinte do princípio democrático no ensino, propõe a partir da Reforma Universitária Lei nº 5.540/68, e dos estudos de Favero (1980; 1991; 1993; 1998;), a apreciação das políticas brasileiras na educação superior. Tais políticas, ao longo do processo histórico do país, têm garantido, ainda que formalmente, a participação da comunidade universitária na escolha de seus representantes. Foi analisado o processo de eleição na instituição investigada, os documentos normativos que orientam e garantem a participação discente assim como o envolvimento do segmento a partir do resultado apurado. Aproximando o envolvimento discente às discussões sobre participação e não-participação, propostas por Licínio Lima (2001), a análise indica um distanciamento dos discentes em relação a sua participação no processo de escolha dos seus representantes na universidade, a participação e a não-participação podem ser caracterizadas como processo ocasionado e também intencional.

This study aims to analyze student participation in the process of choosing Rector and Vice-Rector for the 2014-2018 management of the State University of Ponta Grossa - PR. Considering the choice of leaders as a constituent factor of the democratic principle in education, it proposes from the University Reform Law No. 5.540 / 68, and Favero's studies (1980, 1991, 1993, 1998), the appreciation of Brazilian policies in higher education . These policies, throughout the country's historical process, have guaranteed, even formally, the participation of the university community in the choice of its representatives. It was analyzed the election process in the investigated institution, the normative documents that guide and guarantee student participation as well as the involvement of the segment from the verified result. Approaching student involvement in the discussions on participation and non-participation, proposed by Licínio Lima (2001), the analysis indicates a distancing of the students in relation to their participation in the process of choosing their representatives in the university, participation and nonparticipation can be characterized as an intended and also intentional process.
