The growth of Araucaria angustifolia (Bert.) O. Ktze., In the National Forest of Passo Fundo, RS, Brazil, was studied in order to investigate the difference in the productivity of stands implanted in different soil types. Data were obtained by sampling randomly chosen square plots of 400 m 2 using the simple random method. The analysis of the interpretation of the results shows that the best growths and, consequently, higher volumetric productivity of barkwood was in Latosol Roxo, where Araucaria angustifoliareached an average annual increase of 16.67 m 3 / ha. This result differs greatly from that obtained in Erotic Littoral Soil with 6.26 m 3/ ha and in Gley Little Humic with only 3.51 m 3 / ha. The growth variation in these soils may be related to their characteristics.
