HISTÓRIA ANTIGA E LITERATURA: O caso da górgona Medusa

História e Literatura não podem e nem devem ser apenas vistas como disciplinas auxiliares. Dependendo do contexto a ser analisado, e mesmo no contexto de algumas teorias historiográficas, são categorias justapostas. Em relação aos estudos sobre o mundo grego antigo, as fontes literárias são documentos imprescindíveis para a construção do discurso do helenista. Para determinados temas a serem analisados, por vezes, o estudioso conta apenas com textos escritos. No caso dos estudos relativos à górgona Medusa, há inúmeras fontes de cultura material que a retratam. Mas a cultura escrita foi a responsável por cristalizar os poderes deste monstro no pensamento do homem antigo e do contemporâneo. O objetivo deste artigo é apresentar algumas passagens da literatura antiga em que Medusa é descrita e analisar como estas fontes auxiliaram no estabelecimento dela no campo do medo.

History and literature cannot, nor should they just be seen as ancillary disciplines. Depending on the context being examined, and even in the context of some historical theories, are juxtaposed categories. With regard to studies on the ancient Greek world, the literary sources are documents essential for the constrution of the Hellenistic’s speech. For certain topics to be analyzed, sometimes the scholar account only with written texts. In the case of studies concerning the Gorgon Medusa there are numerous sources of material culture that portray. But culture writing was responsible for crystallize the powers of this monster in the thinking man's ancient and contemporary. The goal of this article is to present some fragments of ancient literature that Medusa is described and analyse how these sources helped to establish it in the field of fear.
