Para entender a complexidade de alguns romances dos escritores italianos Carlo Sgorlon (1930-2009) e Fulvio Tomizza (1935-1999), ressaltamos aspectos de literatura de fronteira e de testemunho, a saber, as imagens percebidas além dos limites da Itália norte-oriental, ponto de encontro com as culturas eslavas, sobretudo com relação aos acontecimentos entre a década de 1940 e o final do século XX, relacionados à complicada convivência entre nacionalidades, etnias, religiões e ideologias políticas, especialmente agravada pelo fascismo, no período 1943-1945. Os episódios na região de Trieste e da Ístria (envolvendo a deportação, a prisão e a tortura de pessoas), a polêmica chacina de Porzûs (um dos eventos mais controversos da Resistência italiana) e o dramático extermínio das Foibe são fatos que multiplicam as discussões nas formas de representação literárias e audiovisuais. Nas décadas seguintes o território balcânico foi partido pela guerra dos anos de 1990, e tanto autores quanto cineastas não se esquivaram da representação dos eventos e de seus antecedentes históricos. Chama a atenção uma capacidade de se levar em conta o passado e as maneiras de absorção da história dessas regiões com a finalidade de colocar o seu conhecimento e reflexão para fora do conveniente esquecimento.

In order to understand the complexity of some novels by the Italian writers Carlo Sgorlon (1930- 2009) and Fulvio Tomizza (1934-1999), we highlight aspects of the literature of frontier and testimony, namely, the images perceived beyond the limits of northeastern Italy, the meeting point with the Slavic cultures, above all in relation to the occurrences between the 1940’s and the end of the 20th century linked to the complicated coexistence among nationalities, ethnicities, religions and political ideologies, which was especially aggravated by Fascism in the period 1943-1945. The episodes in the region of Trieste and Istria involving the deportation, imprisonment and torture of people, the polemic slaughter of Porzûs (one of the most controversial events of the Italian resistance) and the dramatic Foibe extermination are facts the multiply the discussion in the forms of literary and audio-visual representation. In the following decades the Balkanic territory was shattered by the 1990’s war, and both writers and filmmakers did not shun the representation of events and their historical background. It draws our attention the capacity of these regions to take into account the past and their ways of absorbing history, with the aim of driving their knowledge and reflexion away from convenient oblivion.
