Após breve apresentação da noção de humanismo em perspectiva histórica, o artigo recorre à interpretação de Jean-Claude Nancy da crise do mundo contemporâneo. Ele a atribui ao humanismo ocidental, de inspiração greco-cristã e de cunho metafísico, enquanto afirmação de um princípio absoluto explicativo de toda a realidade, entendido, seja enquanto transcendente no monoteísmo, seja enquanto imanente no seu equivalente, o ateísmo moderno que dele deriva. Para superar o enclausuramento da razão daí resultante, ele pretende, com sua desconstrução do cristianismo, reinterpretá-lo, abrindo a razão a uma transcendência ilimitada, numa fé sem conteúdo definido que se mantém, esvaziada de qualquer segurança, em adoração de nada. Aceitando a crítica do Deus da metafísica tradicional, atingido como meta do movimento ascendente da razão na busca de compreensão total da realidade, o artigo propõe uma alternativa ao impasse da razão, mostrando que a análise fenomenológica reconhece no íntimo do espírito humano o absoluto transcendente implicitamente presente, como dom gratuito de sentido. Ele pode ser experienciado e acolhido por quem se abre livremente à verdade de sua condição finita na evidência intuitiva sui generis própria da fé. Neste sentido, a atitude religiosa autêntica não implica a concepção ontoteológica do mistério divino. Os mitos e ritos, assim compreendidos, ainda que introduzam o divino como ente no horizonte humano-mundano do ser, remetem radicalmente para além de tais símbolos por sua experiência do mistério.

After a brief historical presentation of the concept of humanism, this article resorts to Jean-Claude Nancy’s interpretation of the contemporary world crisis. Nancy attributes it to the metaphysical underpinnings of Christian humanism, posited as an absolute principle explaining the whole reality, seen as either transcendent in monotheism, or as immanent in modern atheism, which from it derives. To overcome the resulting enclosure of reason, he intends, through his deconstruction of Christianity, to reinterpret it, opening reason to an unlimited transcendence, in a faith free from all defined content that keeps itself devoid of any assurance, adoring nothing. Once the critique of the God of traditional metaphysics is accepted, reached as a goal of the gradual ascent of reason in search of the complete understanding of reality, an alternative to the impasse of reason is proposed. It shows that the phenomenological analysis acknowledges, deep into the human spirit, the absolute transcendent, implicitly present, as a gratuitous gift of meaning. This absolute transcendent can be experienced and accepted by all those who open themselves freely to the truth of their finite condition, in the sui generis intuitive evidence of faith. In this sense, the authentic religious attitude does not imply the ontotheological conception of the divine mystery. The myths and rites, thus understood, even though they introduce the divine as a being to the human-mundane horizon of being, refer radically beyond such symbols due to the experience of the mystery.
