O artigo tem o objetivo de problematizar as relações entre arte contemporânea e religião na obra da artista plástica e performer carioca Márcia X.. Tomamos como ponto de partida a controvérsia envolvendo sua obra “Desenhando com terços” que, em 2006, foi retirada de uma exposição sob a alegação de ter misturado de forma ofensiva elementos religiosos e eróticos. O texto está dividido em duas partes. Primeiramente, apresentaremos a leitura dos críticos sobre os trabalhos de Márcia X.. Em seguida, examinaremos a dimensão da religião e do sagrado no trabalho da artista. Com isso, pretendemos simultaneamente mapear sua trajetória e as questões principais com as quais dialoga, e observar como se dá o rendimento da questão relativa à religiosidade e ao sagrado.

The article aims to problematize the relationship between contemporary art and religion in the work of artist and performer Marcia X.. We take as starting point the controversy surrounding her artwork “Desenhando com terços ("Drawing with rosaries") that, in 2006, was supressed from an exhibition under the allegation that the work have mixed offensively religious and erotic elements. The text is divided into two parts. First, we present the critic’s reading of the work of Marcia X.. We will then examine the extent of religion and the sacred in the work of the artist. We intend to map out both his career and the main issues with which dialogue, and see how she works with religion and the sacred.
