We intend, in this paper, to address the nature of the offending images from a possible dialogue between Semiotics of Culture of Ivan Bystrina and the propositions about the iconoclasm in WJT Mitchell. To this end, we make use of the analysis of two images from different environments, though similar for their semiotic and cultural functions: the first refers to the Pope -ass, authored by Martin Luther and Philip Melanchthon, and the second to a charge by cartoonist Luz, comically depicting the Prophet Muhammad in the French weekly newspaper Charlie Hebdo.
